MAKING MERIT FOR THE KING: Mr. Surachai Kanasa, the Governor of Samut Prakan, led government officials and local people in giving alms to 99 monks in honour of His Majest the King on the occasion of his 82nd birthday.  The ceremony started, on the morning of 5th December 2009, at 6.30 a.m. with chanting and was then followed by alms giving. Afterwards, 1,000,000 sea creatures, such as shrimps, were released into the Chao Phraya River. This evening, Mr. Surachai Kanasa will lead the local people to light candles to wish the monarch a happy birthday.

ทำบุญตักบาตรวันพ่อแห่งชาติ: เช้าวันนี้ (5 ธันวาคม 2552) เวลาประมาณ 6.30 น. นายสุรชัย ขันอาสา ผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัดสมุทรปราการเป็นประธานพิธีเปิดงานร่วมกันทำบุญตักบาตร เนื่องในงานเฉลิมพระชนมพรรษา พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวภูมิพลอดุลยเดชมหาราช ณ บริเวณลานหน้าศาลากลางจังหวัด โดยมีหัวหน้าหน่วยงานราชการต่างๆเข้าร่วม นอกจากนั้นยังมีการปล่อยพันธุ์สัตว์น้ำจำนวน 1 ล้านตัวลงสู่แม่น้ำเจ้าพระยา ณ บริเวณริมเขื่อนศาลากลางอีกด้วย

FLOODING CONTROL INSPECTION: Mr. Surachai Kanasa, the Governor of Samut Prakan, went on an inspection on 1st December 2009, to check the measures being taken to prevent high tide floods in the city. He also discussed with Mr. Amnuay Rassamitat, Chief Executive of the PAO ideas to improve the situation for the following year. The next high tide floods in Paknam are expected this week with the peak being in the mornings of Sunday and Monday. The amount of water on the road depends a lot on how much floodwater and runoff is coming down the Chao Phraya River from up north.

ตรวจแนวเขื่อนริมแม่น้ำเจ้าพระยา: วัน ที่ 1 ธันวาคม 2552 นายสุรชัย ขันอาสา ผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัดสมุทรปราการ และนายอำนวย รัศมิทัต นายกอบจ.สมุทรปราการ ทำการตรวจแนวเขื่อนริมแม่น้ำเจ้าพระยา และประชุมเพื่อหาทางป้องกันและแก้ไขปัญหาอุทกภัยและน้ำท่วมขังในพื้นที่ จังหวัดสมุทรปราการสืบเนื่องจากน้ำทะเลหนุนสูง มีการคาดการณ์ว่าปลายสัปดาห์นี้ถึงต้นสัปดาห์หน้าน้ำทะเลจะหนุนขึ้นสูงอีก ควรหลีกเลี่ยงการสัญจรไปมาบริเวณหน้าศาลากลางจังหวัดและแยกหอนาฬิกาในช่วง เวลาสายของวัน

SAMUT PRAKAN FOOTBALL CLUB: The final match of the season took place on Sunday (29th November 2009) at Bang MOD Stadium in Thonburi. The match was between Samut Prakan FC and Narathiwat FC. The final score was 0-0. As Narathiwat FC had more points from the season, they will be promoted to Division 1. The match was marred by fireworks and water bottles being thrown onto the pitch by Samut Prakan supporters.

DRAINAGE PROJECT FOR SUVARNABHUMI ROAD: The multi-billion baht drainage project to drain flood water away from Suvarnabhumi Airport and Samrong Canal has nearly been completed. Seen in the picture here is the viaduct over Sukhumwit Road on the coastline in Bang Pu.

ANNIVERSARY OF THE DEATH OF KING RAMA VI: Today marks the anniversary of the death of King Rama VI on November 25, 1925. As this King is regarded as the “Father of Thai Scouting”, schools all over the province took part in a special ceremony to celebrate his life and to remember the day he died. Mr. Surachai Kanasa, the Governor of Samut Prakan, presided over the ceremony at the City Hall Plaza.

SINGING OF NATIONAL ANTHEM: An estimated 50,000 people from all around Samut Prakan came together on 20th November 2009 to sing the national anthem at the City Hall Plaza. The event was broadcast live across the nation.

FIVE MILLION BAHT TOILETS AT WAT BANG PHLI YAI NAI: Probably the most expensive toilet in a temple in Thailand were recently opened at a cost of 5 million baht. The toilets at Wat Bang Phli Yai Nai in Samut Prakan are all air conditioned and there are automatic sensors everywhere including the glass doors to enter, the toilet flush and the hand basins.
